There are almost 50,000 more houses paying Additional IMI in 2019, the tax on properties with a fiscal value exceeding €600,000. Last year, the number of homes covered by AIMI rose by 10%. In 2019, there are 47,134 more properties paying the levy. This growth earned the state €139.6 million, eight million more than a year earlier.
The holiday let reservation platform has added “Airbnb Luxe” to its options. The new category makes available luxury accommodations and associated premium services, such as a route planner, chefs and masseurs. The Airbnb Luxe promises offerings to guests that are “the most extraordinary houses in the world”.
As part of the 2017 Budget proposals, those owning real estate with a rateable value over €500,000 will have an additional tax to pay. The new assessment, as yet named, will be progressive tax and will accumulate with the on-going property tax, IMI. The government hopes to raise an additional €100-€200 million with this new levy.
